Magical place from geological events, shaped by the work of farmers for centuries, the Great Site Salagou and Mourèze today offers all the lunar spectacle arid landscapes that contrast with the Water and biodiversity extended remarkable Mediterranean.
This unique preserved site urbanism contains a quantity of sights not to be missed. A wealth of animal and plant species found in this rich ecosystem favorable to their development environment.
Lake Salagou one of the great iconic landscapes of France. Just like its neighbors, Saint-Guilhem-le-Desert and the Cirque de Navacelles, the Grand Site Salagou “breathtaking” and provokes emotions in the viewer. Beautiful, unusual and fragile, the Grand Site Salagou and Mourèze is protected by the 1930 law on classified sites for the beauty of its landscapes. Managers communities of Grand Site are grouped within a Syndicat Mixte that occurs on almost 10 000 hectares for the preservation of landscapes, an innovative rural development, and a warm welcome, as part of a Grand operation Site.
The Natura 2000 site Salagou houses twenty species of birds threatened in Europe, including Bonelli’s Eagle, the Little Bustard or the European Roller.
Observations show that the Salagou Valley and Peret Cabrières and territories are very representative of Mediterranean biodiversity, generated by agricultural activity.
Three main types of environments are particularly important for birds : backgrounds worked by man, the banks of the lake and cliffs.
Salagou lake, created in 1960, today is a perfect setting for leisure activities, family walks, or simply to enjoy the sun and it would be a shame not to enjoy the local cuisine. The strong sunlight throughout the year makes it a unique nature recreation ground for sailing lovers, hiking, mountain biking or for family walks, or simply to relax.
